BLACK INOX

THE NEW TREND IN ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN!

It has been noticed that over the past few years products and architectural applications in black stainless steel were pretty popular. Black inox was formerly used usually in jewelries, the car industry and in weapon armory. Over the years it has passed in home design, mostly in kitchen equipment like fridges, benches, electric device and in special architectural applications.

The beautiful and original aesthetic result combined with the well-known good features of stainless steel have lead to this popular trend retail customers but also the industry professionals. An excellent sample of project in black stainless steel is the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland USA that has cladding primarily in mirror-finish black Rimex stainless steel.
The procedure of turning stainless steel into black stainless steel is very similar to passivation, as both are conducted in “baths” where the piece of metal is put. Turning stainless steel black takes from 5’ to 30’ depending on the product. It is highly recommended to use electrochemical painting procedures in order to obtain the best possible results. The black oxide method technically turns the metal’s surface to black through chemical reactions that happen in the “bath”. It is very important to know that once stainless steel turns black it cannot go through any other treatment like welding, bending or curving as irreparable damage can and will be provoked. If black stainless steel is damaged corrosion resistance and life expectancy are automatically reduced to the minimum.
